“The Battle Hymn of the Republic” is one of the most famous American patriotic songs dating back to the Civil War, its chorus “Glory, glory, hallelujah!” immediately recognizable. Few people however are familiar with its earlier version: “John Brown’s body” which features a more active rhythm and more radical lyrics (in the political sense). Below is a very basic diatonic arrangement of “John Brown’s Body”.
