• How old are you when you started playing kalimba?:

  I was 15 years old when I started playing kalimba.

• How did you learn to play kalimba? Did you have a teacher?:

  I don't have a teacher but I learned through YouTube. I watched ate Robin's (Tip's Kalimba) tutorials. I watched her videos about how to tune, how to arrange, differences and comparison, how to take care pf kalimba, etc. even though I don't know if I would get a kalimba.

• What inspired you to learn how to play the kalimba?:

  The sounds it produce inspired me to play. Everytime I feel sad, nervous, or having an anxiety attack I will play a kalimba cover to help me calm down and relax and it would always work. The sound of the kalimba gives me comfort and peace.

• What was the first piece you learned?:

  The first piece I played was "Walk With Me" by Bella Thorne I played it for my best friend's birthday because that song holds a special place in our hearts specially the lyrics "but now I walk with you" because before we always kept our problems to ourselves but now we have each other and we talked about it.

• How many instruments do you play and what are they?:

  I have 5 instruments but Kalimba is the only instrument I can play. I have 1 melodica which I rarely play because it's too loud and there's a baby in our neighborhood. I have 1 classical guitar from my cousin and I'm still learning how to play it. 1 piano from my uncle and I haven't tried playing it because the adaptor is missing so I bought a new one. And 2 kalimbas which makes me feel happy and relax.

• Which famous musicians do you admire? Why?:

  I really love Gloc-9 and his songs he is a famous rapper here in the Philippines. One of his song is "Sirena" which is about a gay who was physically and emotionally hurt by his father just because of his gender but even though life is tough for him she still chose to rise up and forgive his father. Another song is "Upuan" which is about how policitians protect their position in the government but forgot to perform their responsibility right. In the sonf he compared the life of the politicians to the life of their country men the food they eat and their homes.

• Do you have any hobbies or interests outside of music?:

  When I have a free time I read and write stories and poem or I play Sodoku on my phone.

• If you could give someone learning the kalimba a piece of advice that helped you the most, what would it be?:

  Small progress is still a progress. Don't pressure yourself to learn a song in just 3 days, it is not about how fast you memorized the song but what matters the most is the passion and hard work you've put to your cover. You can always ask someone if you want to learn something, trust me it helps A LOT! Always remember to love your cover even if it is not perfect because that is part of your growth. FIGHTING!
