My Journey with my Best Buddy (Kalimba)

It was my best friend (Karen) who introduced kalimba to me. One time, she send a voice message to our group chat and it is her playing her kalimba. I was amazed by the sound of it. Its like a magic to me because it calms my anxious mind. After listening to the vm that my best friend sent, I searched on YouTube some kalimba covers that makes me want to buy one of it. I search it on lazada/shopee to know how much it is. I feel sad after knowing that its quite expensive. I only have ₱200 pesos that time and the lowest price of a 17 keys kalimba is around ₱380. That day, I promise to myself that I’ll buy it next time. Because I can’t buy a kalimba, so I tried installing a kalimba app where I can try and practice using it. I was so happy that time even if it just an app because I can able to try it and play some of my favorite song using it. I know na there’s a bit difference playing it in an application and playing a real one of it. Months passed, I already memorize and play some songs with the help of the kalimba application. Then one day, I asked my parents if they can lend me some money because I want to buy something. They agreed and they’ve said na I have a high grades naman daw sa school so they give me some money. I was so happy that time because finally I can have my own real kalimba :>> . Right after they give me the money I immediately search the kalimba with the lowest price and ordered it ( I think nabili ko siya ng ₱385.00 sa shopee). After 3days dumating siya, and again I’m super happy that time kulang yung word na super para idescribe yung happiness ko right after dumating nung first kalimba buddy ko .

It’s also my first ever instrument na nagkaroon ako so I’ll treasure it like how I treasure my family. For me, playing my best buddy is like a form of meditation. It has helped me to reflect on what I have done and who I am.

I am sure we are all worthy winners. But of course I deserve to win this because I really want to have an acrylic kalimba. It is one of my wishlist but unluckily I don’t have some money to buy it. I badly want to try it and inspire other to try this beautiful and unique instrument.

To tell you the truth, I always join sa mga giveaways but unfortunately lagi akong talo. But it’s okay I think it’s not my time to won those giveaways. And I believe that there’s always a perfect time for everything so I’ll just wait for it : ) .

Playing the kalimba is a deeply personal experience for me because it transports me into myself, as if I were taking a deep breath and descending to the bottom of a clear and tranquil sea. The world’s distractions and annoyances go away, leaving me to deal with whatever difficulties, challenges, victories, and joys arise between me and my best buddy, kalimba.
